Talking to Everyone is Talking to No One: Let’s Find Your People

If you’re trying to talk to everyone, chances are, no one’s really listening. It’s one of the hardest lessons for small business owners and content creators to learn - but it’s also one of the most freeing! The truth is, the more specific you get, the more magnetic your message becomes.

Let’s break it down.

Why Talking to Everyone Doesn’t Work

When you create content that tries to appeal to everyone, you end up with watered-down messaging that doesn't resonate deeply with anyone. You’re vague. You’re generic. You’re gasp forgettable. And in a world where people are scrolling at lightning speed, you’ve got a half-second to grab their attention.

Imagine saying, “These jeans are cute, trendy, and everyone will love them!” Now imagine saying, “These jeans were made for the moms still wearing maternity leggings two years postpartum who forgot what zippers feel like, but still want to look good walking into Target.” Which one stops the scroll?

The Power of Specificity

Your people are out there. The ones who get you. The ones who will share your content, buy your product, and tell their friends. But they’re not going to find you if you’re yelling into the void of mass appeal.

When you narrow your focus, you deepen your impact.

Talk to the burned-out teacher trying to romanticize her Sunday.

Talk to the skincare lover who's over being sold serums by 22-year-olds with flawless genes.

Talk to the small-town mom who wants her house to feel like Anthropologie on a Hobby Lobby budget.

That’s when the connection happens.

That’s when community builds.

That’s when sales follow.

So…. Who are Your People?

Here’s a quick framework to help you find them:

  1. What do they care about?

Not just their demographics - what keeps them up at night? What makes them laugh? What TikTok’s are they saving?

  2. What language do they speak?

Are they corporate? Casual? Caffeinated chaos energy? Mirror their vibe.

  3. What problem are you solving?

Get crystal clear. If you’re selling handmade jewlery, you’re not just selling earrings - you’re selling confidence in the school pick up line.

Final Thought: Don’t Fear the Niche

Narrowing your audience doesn't mean shrinking your business. It means building a foundation of actual fans instead of passive followers. Once you find your people - and speak directly to them - you’ll realize you don't need to shout over the noise. You just need to speak the right language.

Let’s stop shouting and start resonating.

always in your corner,
